Mu Wang Zhi Wang: Han Tie Dou

Mu Wang Zhi Wang: Han Tie Dou, translated as King of Grave: The Han Iron Fight, is a 3D animated series produced by the Chinese studio Build Dream. Debuting in 2016, the series was designed to blend the traditional wuxia genre with high-fantasy elements, centering on the lore of legendary tomb-raiding families. It emerged during a period of rapid expansion in the Chinese animation industry, where studios were increasingly utilizing advanced CGI to create elaborate combat sequences and expansive world-building inspired by web novels and historical mythos.

The visual direction, led by the creative team at Build Dream, focused on distinctive character designs and intricate architectural settings to distinguish the series from conventional martial arts animations. The production utilized motion capture and proprietary rendering techniques to achieve fluid movement, a hallmark of the studio's aesthetic during the mid-2010s. Upon release, it was well-received by domestic audiences for its technical ambition and its attempt to modernize the classic wuxia narrative structure for a digital-native generation.
