Where it came from
The My Bride is a Mermaid Fan Disc was released in 2008 following the successful television anime adaptation of the manga series by Tahiko Urasawa. Produced by Studio GONZO and AIC, the original series gained a cult following for its blend of slapstick comedy, parody, and romantic tropes. The fan disc was conceived as a celebratory companion piece for the dedicated fanbase, providing supplementary content that expanded on the characters' interactions outside the core narrative structure.
The design and production of the disc reflect the aesthetic established by the anime’s character designer, Kazuaki Morita. The visuals lean into the series' signature bright, exaggerated art style, incorporating promotional art, voice actor interviews, and short bonus animations. Upon its release, it was well-received by the existing community as a lighthearted tribute that honored the high-energy comedic tone that defined the series during its initial broadcast run.
