Where it came from
The Nanatsuko Nezumi (Seven Little Mice) OVA series emerged during the late 1980s as part of a wave of experimental and whimsical direct-to-video animation projects in Japan. Produced during a period when the Original Video Animation market allowed creators to pursue niche, non-traditional storytelling outside of the constraints of broadcast television, these shorts were designed to appeal to younger audiences through anthropomorphic characters and gentle, fable-like narratives.
The series is noted for its soft aesthetic, which relied on the characteristic cel animation style of the era, focusing on expressive character designs that emphasized charm and movement. While the series remains a relatively obscure relic of 1980s animation history, it is valued by enthusiasts of the medium for its reflection of the creative freedom afforded to independent animation studios during that decade's production boom.
