Where it came from
Natsu ga Hajimaru, released in 2021, is a short-form original net animation produced by the independent studio Space Neko Company. It was created as a stylistic exploration of the fleeting, nostalgic atmosphere associated with summer in Japan, utilizing the studio's signature minimalist aesthetic and focus on atmospheric soundscapes rather than traditional dialogue-heavy narrative arcs.
The animation was crafted as a self-contained digital project, designed to showcase the studio's ability to evoke emotional resonance through limited color palettes and deliberate framing. Upon its release online, the work was received by the indie animation community as a refined example of lo-fi digital storytelling, praised specifically for its rhythmic pacing and the evocative quality of its hand-drawn environmental backgrounds.
