Where it came from
Natsu ga Owaru made, or Until Summer Ends, was produced by the studio Show-Ten and released as an original video animation in 2020. It belongs to the broader category of independent or niche-market anime productions that rely on specific distribution channels within the Japanese domestic market, often focusing on intimate character-driven narratives that eschew the high-octane tropes of mainstream television series.
The production design reflects the minimalist aesthetic common to projects from smaller boutique studios during this period, prioritizing atmospheric storytelling and nuanced animation loops over complex world-building. While it did not reach a wide international audience, it is regarded by enthusiasts of the 2020 indie OVA circuit as a quiet experiment in visual pacing, intended to evoke a sense of nostalgia characteristic of the waning days of the summer season.
