Natsuyasumi.

Natsuyasumi was released in 2013 as an original net animation produced by Studio 9 Maiami. The short film was conceived as a niche project within the independent animation scene, focusing on evocative, atmospheric storytelling rather than traditional commercial narrative structures. It emerged during a period when digital distribution platforms were allowing smaller studios to experiment with more experimental visual styles and intimate character studies that bypassed the requirements of television broadcast.

The design of the piece is characterized by its distinct aesthetic, which leans heavily into the Japanese concept of nostalgia associated with the summer holidays. The creative team aimed to capture the ephemeral feeling of childhood summers, utilizing a soft color palette and deliberate pacing to ground the viewer in a quiet, reflective setting. Upon its release, it was recognized primarily within animation enthusiast circles for its artistic restraint and the studio's ability to create a sense of place through minimalist animation techniques.
