Where it came from
Neko mo, Onda-ke was produced by Studio! Cucuri and premiered in 2016 as a series of short-form anime episodes. The series is an adaptation of the manga by Takashi Murakami, which depicts the daily, often humorous interactions between a family and their cat. The animation style was specifically chosen to reflect the whimsical and observational nature of the source material, utilizing a simple, clean aesthetic that prioritizes character expressions and the domestic environment.
The production sought to capture the understated charm of the original manga, focusing on the relatable, quiet moments of pet ownership that resonated with Japanese audiences. Upon its release, the series was received as a gentle slice-of-life title, noted for its brevity and its ability to condense the idiosyncratic behaviors of cats into digestible, character-driven vignettes.
