Where it came from
Neko Ningen no Atashi, which translates to The Cat-Human Me, is a short animated segment that originally aired on the Japanese public broadcaster NHK. It emerged from the network's long-running program Minna no Uta, a show dedicated to featuring short-form animation paired with original music, serving as a platform for experimental and stylized creative works.
The piece is notable for its surreal and minimalist aesthetic, characteristic of the avant-garde animation styles often commissioned by NHK during the late 20th century. By focusing on a whimsical, hybrid protagonist, the creators utilized the limited-animation style typical of the period to explore themes of identity and playful absurdity, leaving a lasting impression on viewers who appreciate the idiosyncratic history of Japanese public media.
