Where it came from
Neko ni Tensei Shita Oji-san originated as a lighthearted web manga series authored by Yamajiro, which gained popularity for its whimsical premise involving a middle-aged salaryman reincarnated as an adorable cat. The transition to a television format in 2024 was spearheaded by Studio Eightcolors, a boutique animation house recognized for their work in bringing stylized, character-driven narratives to life through unique visual aesthetics.
The animation direction for the series focuses on blending the comedic absurdity of the protagonist's human perspective with the charming, fluffy visual language typical of pet-centric storytelling. By utilizing a distinct color palette and fluid character movement, the studio aimed to capture the surreal transition from a mundane office life to the lifestyle of a pampered feline, garnering positive attention from audiences who appreciate cozy, low-stakes supernatural narratives.
