Neko to Wakai se na

Neko to Wakai se na is a 2023 Original Net Animation produced by Toho, emerging within a contemporary animation landscape that increasingly leverages short-form digital content to explore slice-of-life narratives. The project was conceived as a lighthearted, visually distinct piece intended for direct-to-consumer digital distribution, reflecting Toho’s broader strategy of expanding their creative output beyond traditional theatrical releases to maintain engagement with audiences on streaming platforms.

The aesthetic direction of the ONA prioritizes a minimalist and expressive character-driven style, favoring atmospheric storytelling over complex world-building. While details regarding the specific lead creative staff remain closely aligned with Toho's internal development teams, the production was received as a charming addition to the studio's portfolio, noted primarily for its technical polish and its adherence to the charming, whimsical tone expected of high-quality Japanese animation shorts.
