Continuing where the first season left off, the sudden increase of Thanatos with the disappearance of the Aube Hunters has now left Arcadia in ruin. Desperation reigns high as the Religious Organization fights to battle the Thanatos. Six months had already past since Hidamari mansion burned to ashes, the Aube Hunters, once hailed as heroes, is now blamed for the appearance of Thanatos. Nevertheless, hope still exists for the reappearance of the Queen's Egg one day, who will become the savior of Arcadia. Unknown to many however, the Aube Hunters have actually been silently waiting for the awakening of Angelique, who has been asleep the entire time.

Where it came from
Neo Angelique Abyss: Second Age was released in 2008 as the direct television sequel to the first season of the Neo Angelique series, which was produced by Yumeta Company. The franchise originated from the Neo Angelique video game, a romance-adventure title developed by Koei for the PlayStation 2. This second season continued the narrative arc of Angelique and her companions as they navigated a world besieged by Thanatos, maintaining the series' distinct blend of fantasy action and character-driven shoujo drama.
The animation style and character designs for the anime were based on the original illustrations by Kairi Yura, whose work is iconic within the Angelique gaming franchise. The production aimed to translate the game's lush, romantic visual aesthetic into a cohesive television format, focusing on the development of the protagonist's powers and the shifting dynamics between the male leads. While the series was developed to satisfy the existing fanbase of the game, it was noted for its departure from the more traditional 'reverse harem' structure, leaning instead into a high-fantasy framework.
