Where it came from
Night Shift Nurses: Kranke was produced in 2005 by the studio Discovery. It belongs to a genre of Japanese adult animation known as OVA—Original Video Animation—which rose to prominence in the late 1980s and 1990s as a way for studios to release content directly to the home video market, bypassing the constraints and censorship of television broadcasting.
The title is part of a series that centers on the hyper-stylized workplace drama tropes common to the adult anime market of the early 2000s. While these productions were generally created for a niche audience interested in specific sub-genres of erotic animation, they are technically notable for their adherence to the visual language and character design trends that defined the mid-2000s independent animation scene in Japan.
