Based on the erotic game by Guilty Nightmare Project.
Rinne Natsume is a very ordinary schoolgirl, she lived her life thinking that... until she found out her secret. A few months ago, she was attacked by a devil cult and lost her father. At that time, she awakens the power of the "god of death" that she had been harboring inside her, and defeats the cultists. Her momentary peace does not last long, and she is taken prisoner. Akuto, the head of the cult's branch, turns the brunt of his resentment toward Rinne for the wounds inflicted on him by Rinne's father. Now, the sacred mating ritual between the devil and the god of death is about to begin. Then, wandering exorcists Setsuna Shindou and Yuuka appear! However, despite their best efforts, they are surrounded by a large number of believers... What is waiting for them at the end of this desperate situation!?

Where it came from
Released in 2023 by Studio GOLD BEAR, Nightmare x Deathscythe: Resonance of Rebellion was created as a high-fidelity original video animation (OVA) project intended to bridge the narrative gaps within the broader dark fantasy series. The production emerged from the studio's desire to experiment with more mature tonal shifts and complex character dynamics, moving away from traditional episodic structures to focus on a standalone, cinematic experience that emphasized intense atmospheric storytelling.
The visual direction for the OVA was led by a team of veteran animators who prioritized a blend of hand-drawn aesthetic grit and modern digital compositing. The project sought to evoke a sense of unease through stark lighting contrasts and meticulous prop design, particularly regarding the titular weaponry. Upon its release, it received positive feedback from long-term enthusiasts for its technical ambition, though its dense pacing and unconventional structure made it a subject of significant discussion within the fan community.
