Synopsis

How much humiliation can four people and a penguin take?

Hard boiled Aito? Sexy bombshell Rihoko? Choji the red brief? Shining Fuusuke? Cutesy Hooter Hiroyuki? Oh, gimme a break! Who do these guys think they are? The Ninku?

Unfortunately for the real Aito, Choji, Rihoko, and Fuusuke, they do. But little did these imposters know when they stumbled on this sleepy little desert town, that there’d be a price to pay for being treated like the real Ninku, namely, having to fight the deadly Heaven & Earth brothers!

Fortunately for our phony friends, the real Aito, Choji, and Fuusuke step in, there’s nothing but trouble for the bad guys. Can the Ninku art of magic fighting beat the Heaven & Earth brothers deadly fighting style?

Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1995 by Studio Pierrot, the Ninku film emerged at the height of the series' popularity following the success of the television anime adaptation. The project was designed to capitalize on the supernatural martial arts themes of Koji Kiriyama’s original manga, providing a standalone cinematic experience that expanded on the lore of the Ninku Corps. It served as a showcase for the studio's technical capabilities in hand-drawn animation during the mid-nineties.

The film was directed by Noriyuki Abe, a veteran of Studio Pierrot who sought to maintain the high-octane energy and comedic timing that fans of the weekly series had come to expect. While it was received as a standard expansion of the franchise rather than a revolutionary departure, the film remains a notable entry in the studio's portfolio, illustrating the transition of action-oriented shonen properties into the big-screen format common during that era of Japanese animation.
