Where it came from
Ninja wa Doko ja, which translates to Where Are the Ninjas?, was a program produced by NHK in the early 1980s as part of their educational and entertainment programming for children. It emerged during a period when Japanese television was experimenting with formats that blended historical themes with puzzle-solving elements, utilizing the enduring cultural fascination with ninja archetypes to engage younger viewers.
The production relied on the signature high-quality standards typical of NHK children's programming of that era, focusing on interactive narratives that required the audience to follow clues to locate characters within the scenes. While it functioned primarily as a lighthearted series, it remains a notable example of NHK's commitment to developing imaginative visual storytelling techniques during the pre-digital animation age.
