Where it came from
Nisekoimonogatari is a short ONA released by studio Shaft in 2015 as part of the promotional lead-up to the Kizumonogatari film trilogy. It serves as a lighthearted, metanarrative bridge within the Monogatari series, designed to maintain audience engagement with the franchise's unique aesthetic and dialogue-heavy style during the extended wait for the films' production.
The animation reflects the signature visual flair of director Akiyuki Shinbo and studio Shaft, characterized by their hallmark use of rapid-fire intertitles, surreal color palettes, and unconventional camera angles. As a piece of supplementary content, it was received primarily as a stylistic treat for dedicated fans, emphasizing the playfulness and self-aware humor that define the broader Monogatari universe.
