Where it came from
Nora was produced by Filmlink International and released as an original video animation in 1985. Emerging during the height of the 1980s Japanese animation boom, this production sought to capitalize on the burgeoning direct-to-video market, which allowed studios to explore darker, more mature science fiction themes outside the constraints of traditional television broadcasts.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of the mid-1980s, characterized by gritty, character-driven narratives often found in the cyberpunk and space-opera genres of the era. While it remains a niche entry in the landscape of early OVAs, it stands as a historical artifact of the experimental period when independent studios pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling and character design to appeal to an increasingly dedicated fanbase of animation enthusiasts.
