Where it came from
Null & Peta was produced in 2019 by Shin-Ei Animation as a multi-media project intended to bridge the gap between traditional anime and digital content creation. The series follows a young genius named Null who rebuilds her deceased older sister, Peta, as a robot, exploring themes of grief and artificial intelligence through a lighthearted, episodic format.
The production sought to capitalize on the rising popularity of virtual YouTubers and short-form web content. Directed by Hirofumi Ogura, the series was designed with a minimalist, high-energy aesthetic to suit its ONA format, allowing for rapid-fire gags and emotional beats that resonated with online audiences seeking accessible, bite-sized storytelling.
