Ocha-ken: Ryokutto Monogatari

Ocha-ken: Ryokutto Monogatari emerged in 2008 as a television continuation of the popular Ocha-ken, or 'Tea Dog,' franchise. Originally conceived by the Japanese company Sega Toys, the franchise centers on charming canine characters whose physical appearances are inspired by various types of tea. This series specifically leans into the whimsical, tranquil aesthetic established by the brand, aiming to capture the interest of young children through gentle, character-driven storytelling that emphasizes the peaceful nature of tea culture.

The animation was produced by Studio Four Some, a team known for their work on children's programming and licensed character media. The design philosophy behind the series focuses on a soft, pastel color palette and rounded character silhouettes designed to be visually soothing. Upon its release, the series served to broaden the reach of the Tea Dog merchandise line, cementing the characters' status as a staple of Japanese character goods throughout the late 2000s.
