Ocha-ken: Chokotto Monogatari

Ocha-ken: Chokotto Monogatari, or Tea Dog: Little Stories, emerged in 2003 as a heartwarming multimedia franchise created by the studio Four Some. The concept centers on characters that are half-puppy and half-tea-leaf, blending Japanese tea culture with the aesthetic of character goods. The series was designed to appeal to younger audiences through short, episodic storytelling that emphasizes gentle companionship and the unique personalities of each tea-themed dog.

The visual design of these characters relies on soft, rounded shapes and color palettes inspired by various types of tea, such as green tea or oolong. Upon its release, the property was well-received for its charming simplicity, leading to an expansive line of merchandise including stationery, plush toys, and video games. The series remains a notable example of the early 2000s trend in Japan of creating character-driven intellectual properties designed for broad, cross-generational appeal.
