Ochibi-san Tanpen Movie

The Ochibi-san short film was released in 2019 as a creative collaboration between the renowned manga artist Moyoco Anno and Studio Khara's subsidiary, Project Studio Q. The project was designed to bring Anno’s gentle, observant visual style to life in a digital format, capturing the quiet, seasonal rhythms of Kamakura. By utilizing a technique that mimics the texture and warmth of watercolor illustrations, the studio aimed to preserve the artistic integrity of the original manga series while introducing it to a broader audience through a concise, atmospheric narrative.

Project Studio Q, established by Khara, Dwango, and Aso Music and Entertainment, focused this production on showcasing their technical versatility in blending traditional artistic aesthetics with contemporary digital animation practices. The film was well-received by fans of Anno’s work for its faithful translation of the character's whimsical world, serving as a meditative counterpart to the more high-octane productions typically associated with the studio’s parent company. It remains a notable example of modern Japanese animation prioritizing character-driven storytelling and artisanal visual quality.
