Where it came from
Ojarumaru: Chitchai Mono no Ookina Chikara was produced in 2007 as a standalone original video animation commemorating the tenth anniversary of the long-running NHK anime series Ojarumaru. Created by Rin Inumaru, the series follows the whimsical life of a young Heian-era prince who travels through time to modern-day Japan. This special episode was designed to capture the series' signature blend of gentle humor and lighthearted fantasy, maintaining the aesthetic established by the original production studio, Nippon Animation.
The animation direction and visual style were crafted to remain faithful to the original series’ minimalist, charming character designs while utilizing the slightly higher production values afforded by a dedicated OVA format. Upon its release, it was received as a nostalgic expansion of the Ojarumaru universe, appealing primarily to the loyal fan base that had followed the broadcast series over its first decade. It serves as a focused narrative piece that reflects the show's enduring themes of friendship and curiosity.
