Where it came from
Released in 2007, Ojarumaru: Mangetsu Road Kiki Ippatsu - Tama ni wa Maro mo Daibouken is a special television feature derived from the long-running anime series Ojarumaru, which originated from a concept by creator Rin Inumaru. Produced by Studio Gallop and aired on NHK, the special expands upon the daily adventures of a Heian-era prince who time-travels to modern-day Japan, maintaining the series' signature blend of historical whimsy and contemporary fish-out-of-water comedy.
The production team at Studio Gallop maintained the gentle, character-driven aesthetic established by the original series, focusing on lighthearted storytelling appropriate for a broad family audience. The special was designed to celebrate the longevity of the franchise, leaning into its whimsical roots while providing a more substantial narrative arc than the standard five-minute episodes, and it was generally received by the Japanese public as a nostalgic and charming extension of the well-loved property.
