Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety

Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety was produced by Pony Canyon and released in 1999 as a quirky, short-form television series. It emerged during a period of experimentation in the late nineties anime scene, blending dark humor with magical girl tropes and gothic aesthetics. The series centers on the antagonistic and often absurd relationship between a young girl and two grim reapers, Risky and Safety, who compete for her soul.

The production was noted for its distinct visual style, which embraced a jarring, stylized approach to character design that set it apart from more traditional offerings of the era. By prioritizing surreal comedy over typical action-adventure narratives, the studio aimed to cultivate a cult audience. While it did not reach widespread mainstream success, it remains a recognized example of the experimental, avant-garde animation trends that flourished in Japanese television during the turn of the millennium.
