Omamori Himari

Omamori Himari originated as a light novel series written by Milan Matra, which was subsequently adapted into a 12-episode anime television series by the animation studio ZEXCS in early 2010. The production sought to blend elements of supernatural action with the romantic comedy genre, centered on a protagonist who discovers his heritage as a slayer of demons and his connection to a cat spirit. The series reflects the popular trends of the late 2000s in Japanese animation, focusing on the intersection of modern high school life and folklore.

The character designs were overseen by the animation team at ZEXCS, who aimed to translate Matra’s light novel illustrations into a vibrant, fluid format suitable for television broadcast. Upon its release, the series was received as a straightforward example of the harem-action subgenre. While it was not viewed as a significant critical departure from standard conventions, it maintained a dedicated viewership through its focus on character dynamics and traditional Japanese mythical themes.
