Where it came from
Released in 2015, One Piece: Episode of Sabo was produced by Toei Animation as a feature-length television special designed to bridge narrative gaps regarding the character Sabo. The special was created to coincide with the Dressrosa arc of the anime, aiming to provide a deeper emotional context for Sabo’s survival and his reunion with Monkey D. Luffy, themes that were central to the overarching story at the time.
The production utilized a mix of high-fidelity animation and re-edited sequences from the original series to emphasize the bond between Luffy, Ace, and Sabo. While the script maintains the established lore of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, it focuses heavily on the perspective of the trio during their childhood on Mount Colubo. It was generally well-received by fans for clarifying Sabo’s absence during the Paramount War and for providing a more cohesive origin story for his character.
