Where it came from
Orient Part 2, released in 2022, serves as the direct continuation of the television anime adaptation of Shinobu Ohtaka's fantasy manga series. Produced by studio A.C.G.T., this installment follows the protagonists Musashi and Kojiro as they navigate a war-torn version of Japan occupied by supernatural beings known as Kishin. The series fits within the broader tradition of shonen action anime, focusing on themes of ambition, camaraderie, and the subversion of historical aesthetics through high-fantasy elements.
The visual design of the series maintains a focus on vibrant, stylized action sequences, characteristic of A.C.G.T.'s work in the fantasy genre. In adapting Ohtaka's source material, the production team aimed to translate the intricate panel layouts of the manga into fluid, kinetic animation. Upon its release, the series was received as a standard entry in the modern action-fantasy canon, appreciated by fans of the source material for its commitment to the established narrative tone while attempting to refine the pacing of its predecessor.
