Where it came from
The Eigakan Manner Eizou (Theaters Manners Video) was produced in 2019 as a creative initiative to educate cinema-goers on theater etiquette before the feature presentation. These short clips moved away from standard informational slides, opting instead for animated or live-action shorts that utilized humor and cultural tropes to encourage polite behavior, such as silencing mobile phones and refraining from talking during the film.
The design of these segments often shifts annually or per specific film release, frequently collaborating with popular anime studios or well-known creators to maintain audience engagement. By transforming mandatory safety and courtesy announcements into entertainment, these videos have become a distinct sub-genre of Japanese cinema culture, often earning a cult following for their inventive visuals and self-aware commentary on public conduct.
