Where it came from
Oshiete Mahou no Pendulum: Rilu Rilu Fairilu was produced by Studio DEEN in 2018 as the second season of the Rilu Rilu Fairilu anime series. This project was developed as part of a collaborative multimedia franchise between Sanrio and Sega Toys, designed to expand the Fairilu universe which centers on magical fairy creatures born from mysterious seeds. The series aimed to provide a gentle, whimsical narrative for younger audiences while showcasing the colorful character designs that are hallmarks of Sanrio-affiliated animation.
The animation style and direction for this season continued the aesthetic established in the franchise’s debut, focusing on soft character modeling and vibrant fantasy environments. Studio DEEN maintained a lighthearted tone consistent with the source material's goals of fostering themes of friendship and personal growth. Upon its broadcast, the series was received primarily as a commercial vehicle for the accompanying toy line and stationery, solidifying its place within the broader ecosystem of early 21st-century Japanese character-driven media.
