Where it came from
Oyo Neko Bunyan originated as a short-lived television series broadcast in 1984, produced by Shin-Ei Animation. The series was designed as a lighthearted, comedic take on the daily lives of cats, leveraging the studio's established reputation for accessible, character-driven animation that resonated with a broad family audience during the mid-eighties.
The character design and visual direction reflect the simplified, expressive aesthetic common to Shin-Ei productions of that era, such as Doraemon. While the series did not achieve the long-term cult status of the studio's more enduring franchises, it remains a recognized piece of 1980s television history, representing the studio's efforts to diversify its catalog of anthropomorphic character comedies.
