Where it came from
Palm Town was produced by Toei Animation as a direct sequel to the popular anime series The Adventures of Pepero and Papi, which was itself based on the works of L. Frank Baum. Premiering in 1987, the series followed the protagonist Patty Rabbit as she moved from the countryside to the titular town to live with her aunt and uncle, transitioning the franchise toward a lighter, slice-of-life aesthetic typical of the late eighties magical girl and animal-themed genres.
The character designs were handled by the veteran animation team at Toei, who focused on soft, approachable visuals to cater to the young demographic of the weekday morning television slot. While the show served as a continuation of established characters, it moved away from the high-adventure fantasy of its predecessor, opting for episodic storytelling that centered on community interaction and personal growth. It remains a nostalgic touchstone for those who followed the broader Toei animation output of that era.
