Pan Dorobou

Pan Dorobou, or Bread Thief, originated as a beloved series of children's picture books created by Keiko Shibata. First published by KADOKAWA in 2020, the stories follow the adventures of a whimsical, bread-obsessed creature who wears a loaf of bread as a disguise. The character's distinct, humorous design and the gentle, heartwarming nature of the narratives quickly gained significant traction in Japan, leading to widespread merchandising and cultural popularity.

The 2026 television series adaptation represents an expansion of Shibata's original vision into animation, produced under the oversight of KADOKAWA. The production team focused on translating the texture and charm of the original illustrations into a moving medium, aiming to capture the same sense of curiosity and mild mischief that defined the books. The series was developed to appeal to both younger readers of the source material and adult audiences who appreciate its unique aesthetic.
