Paper Rabbit Rope: Wait Last One For Summer Vacation For Real!?

This film, known in Japan as Kami Usagi Rope: Summer Vacation Last One for Real!?, serves as the first feature-length expansion of the popular Flash-animated short series Kami Usagi Rope. Originally created in 2008 by Yuuji Uchiyama, the series centers on the mundane, dialogue-heavy conversations between a rabbit named Rope and a squirrel named Akira. The 2012 movie was produced to capitalize on the series' massive viral success, aiming to transplant the minimalist aesthetic and droll, improvisational-style humor of the three-minute shorts into a longer, more structured cinematic narrative.

The film was designed to retain the signature lo-fi, surreal visual style that defined the franchise, utilizing static backgrounds and limited character animation to emphasize the verbal interactions. Directed by Yuuji Uchiyama, the project sought to maintain the cynical, observational comedy that resonated with Japanese urban youth. Upon release, the film was received as an extension of the franchise's established brand, praised by fans for preserving the chemistry between the protagonists while successfully adapting the format for a theatrical experience.
