Paper Rabbit Rope x AU Collaboration

The Paper Rabbit Rope collaboration emerged in 2012 as part of an experimental intersection between independent stationery craftsmanship and contemporary accessory design. This project was conceived to elevate the tactile, ephemeral nature of paper art by incorporating it into functional, wearable rope-based structures. The collaboration sought to balance the fragile, aesthetic sensibility of Japanese-inspired paper folding with the structural durability required for everyday use, signaling a shift toward artisanal, narrative-driven products in the boutique design market.

The design process was led by the collective at Paper Rabbit, who aimed to move beyond static paper goods by integrating high-tensile materials. The aesthetic was heavily influenced by minimalist geometry and monochromatic palettes, intended to highlight the intricate folds and material texture of the paper components. Upon release, the item was received as a niche collector’s piece, noted primarily by design enthusiasts for its unconventional material pairing and the challenge it posed to the traditional definitions of fashion accessories.
