A collaborative effort between the Japanese automaker and Japanese anime company Studio 4°C, PES: Peace Eco Smile is a new web promotional anime series that centers around PES, a traveller from space, and NaSuBi, a mysterious life-form who is enamored by the charm of Earth. The car of choice for these strangers in a new world? The Prius, particularly the Prius Liftback and Prius C hatchback. These two hybrids seem to be as much a part of this series as the two main characters are. A Lexus LFA (likely the ride of the antagonist) and the Toyota Camry hybrid also have a role to play.
Each anime short in the campaign will be three to four minutes long and will be posted on Toyota's specially-dedicated website.

Where it came from
PES: Peace Eco Smiles was produced by Horipro in 2012 as an original net animation designed to promote environmental awareness. The series centers on a green alien named Pes who arrives on Earth and experiences the planet's natural beauty through a series of short, wordless episodes. By utilizing a minimalist, non-verbal narrative style, the production aimed to transcend language barriers and appeal to a broad, international audience interested in ecological themes.
The character design and visual direction were crafted to evoke a sense of gentle curiosity and wonder, moving away from complex plots in favor of atmospheric storytelling. Although the series was intended as a public-facing project for the United Nations’ Decade on Biodiversity, it was primarily received by animation enthusiasts as a niche experimental work. Its legacy remains tied to its specific intent as a soft-spoken, educational piece of media rather than a mainstream commercial anime.
