Where it came from
PES: Drive Your Heart was released in 2013 as a promotional original net animation (ONA) produced to advertise the Subaru BRZ. It represents a unique intersection of Japanese car culture marketing and high-end anime production, aiming to capture the excitement of driving through a stylized, fast-paced visual narrative that emphasizes the vehicle's agility and aesthetic appeal.
The project was directed by Yasuhiro Yoshiura, known for his work on Patema Inverted and Time of Eve, who utilized his signature blend of grounded character interactions and fluid, dynamic animation. The short was well-received within both the automotive enthusiast and anime communities for elevating the standard of commercial animation, focusing on a vibrant color palette and kinetic cinematography to mirror the sensations of the open road.
