Where it came from
Petit! Tokyo Mew Mew New~♡ is a series of short, humorous promotional animations released in 2022 to coincide with the broadcast of the rebooted Tokyo Mew Mew New anime. Produced as lighthearted accompaniment to the main series, these segments served to maintain audience engagement and highlight the character dynamics of the Mew Mews through a stylized, simplified aesthetic that contrasts with the traditional production values of the full-length episodes.
The character designs for these shorts were adapted to capture a charming, chibi-inspired look that prioritizes playfulness and brevity. While the original Tokyo Mew Mew manga by Reiko Yoshida and Mia Ikumi remains a cornerstone of the magical girl genre from the early 2000s, these 2022 shorts reflect modern digital animation trends aimed at social media distribution, ensuring the legacy of the franchise remained accessible to a contemporary, fast-paced viewership.
