Pink Lady Monogatari: Eikou no Tenshi-tachi

Pink Lady Monogatari: Eikou no Tenshi-tachi was produced by Toei Animation in 1978 as a biographical anime series centering on the Japanese pop duo Pink Lady, consisting of Mitsuyo Nemoto and Keiko Masuda. At the height of their cultural influence in the late 1970s, the series was designed to capitalize on the pair's massive popularity by dramatizing their rise to stardom. The production employed a mixture of traditional animation and live-action concert footage, a unique aesthetic choice intended to bridge the gap between their televised variety performances and the then-booming medium of anime.

The character designs were handled by the studio’s internal animation team, aiming for a stylized, slightly idealized representation of the duo to appeal to a younger demographic. While the series remains a significant artifact of the late Showa-era entertainment landscape, it received a lukewarm critical reception at the time. It is often remembered today primarily as a historical curiosity that reflects the intense celebrity culture surrounding Japanese idol groups during the late 1970s.
