Forget the fashion police or a therapist – the Pinky Street action figure Saki is here to save the day! Mei is a tomboyish girl who would love to spend more time on fashion like her favorite Pinky Street figure, if she wasn’t busy being hassled by her male classmates; Keiichirou is an otaku who collects Pinky Street figures, and who has just been in a fight with a good friend. Both are taken in their sleep to the fabulous Pinky Town, where they are taken to a clothing store, toy store, and have a bite to eat with Saki herself! What other insights await our heroes?

Where it came from
Pinky:st. began as a line of customizable vinyl figurines designed by Kaneko Mayu in 2003, characterized by their distinct chibi proportions and interchangeable heads, torsos, and limbs. Due to the immense popularity of the figures among collectors, the studio GONZO produced a short promotional OVA titled 'Pinky:st.' in 2006 to further expand the brand's reach. The animation was designed to mirror the stylized, colorful aesthetic of the physical dolls, effectively serving as a high-visibility marketing piece that brought the static figures to life for the existing fan base.
The 2006 OVA was received as a niche curiosity within the broader landscape of anime advertising, primarily appealing to those already invested in the hobby of toy collecting. By capturing the essence of the customizable Pinky:st. figures in a narrative format, the production team aimed to emphasize the playful and modular nature of the product line. While it remains a relatively obscure entry in the GONZO filmography, it stands as a clear example of the era's trend of creating tie-in media to bolster the cross-marketing of boutique collectible toys.
