Where it came from
Released in 2009 by TMS Entertainment, the Play the Lupin clips x parts collection was designed as a commemorative special celebrating the enduring legacy of the Lupin III franchise. This release emerged during a period of renewed interest in the series, serving as a curated archive that showcased iconic sequences and artistic motifs from decades of animation. It was conceptualized to appeal to long-time fans by highlighting the sophisticated aesthetic evolution of the characters, particularly the sleek, heist-focused imagery that defines the brand.
The production sought to balance the nostalgia of the original manga-inspired designs with the refined fluid animation techniques that TMS Entertainment had perfected over years of series development. By focusing on specific clips and compositional parts, the collection invited viewers to appreciate the technical craftsmanship behind the show's high-octane chases and character dynamics. While primarily aimed at the Japanese enthusiast market, the project received praise for its archival quality and its role in preserving the visual identity of one of anime's most recognizable anti-heroes.
