Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery

Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery was released in 2025 as part of an ongoing collaborative promotional effort between The Pokémon Company and the Japan Post. Following the successful introduction of the Special Delivery Pikachu stamps and promotional cards, this original net animation (ONA) was produced to bridge the gap between physical mail services and the digital world of Pokémon. It serves as a narrative expansion of the 'Pokémon Special Delivery' campaign, which emphasizes themes of connection, correspondence, and the joy of receiving mail.

The animation was produced by CoMix Wave Films, a studio renowned for its meticulous attention to lighting, atmosphere, and detailed background art. The studio was selected to bring a cinematic, emotive quality to the piece, moving away from traditional television animation styles to create a more immersive, short-form experience. By centering the story on Dragonite, a Pokémon long established in the franchise as a helpful courier, the production team aimed to evoke a sense of warmth and reliability that aligns with the traditional values of postal services.
