Where it came from
Pole Princess!! was produced by Tatsunoko Production in 2023 as an original net animation project designed to highlight the intersection of competitive pole dancing and character-driven storytelling. The series emerged within a niche of sports-themed anime that emphasize technical choreography and personal growth, aiming to present pole dancing as a legitimate, graceful athletic pursuit rather than its more common tabloid representations.
The project was overseen by director Hitomi Ezoe and featured choreography developed with the assistance of professional pole dancers to ensure the animation captured the physical weight and fluidity of the movements. By focusing on a group of high school students attempting to save a local planetarium through performance, the series sought to bring a heartfelt, grounded aesthetic to a medium often defined by high-fantasy tropes, ultimately garnering appreciation for its high-quality 3D animation standards.
