Where it came from
Pole Princess!! was conceived by Avex Pictures and Tatsunoko Production as a multimedia project designed to highlight the sport of pole dancing within the framework of a narrative-driven anime. Released in 2023, the feature film serves as the culmination of a web-based promotional series, aiming to treat the athletic and artistic elements of pole dance with genuine technical respect by incorporating motion-capture performances from professional dancers.
The production sought to balance the high-energy aesthetics of sports anime with the intricate, gravity-defying maneuvers required in competitive pole dancing. Directed by Hitoyuki Ogano, the film focuses on the emotional development of its protagonists, Hinano Hoshikita and her peers, reflecting a trend in modern Japanese animation where niche hobbies or athletic pursuits are dramatized through character-focused storytelling and vibrant, choreographed visual sequences.
