Where it came from
Popolocrois Monogatari was produced by studio Bee Train and aired in 1998, serving as an animated adaptation of the popular role-playing game series originally created by Yohsuke Tamori. The narrative follows the young Prince Pietro of Popolocrois as he embarks on a journey to rescue his mother, balancing traditional fantasy tropes with a gentle, fable-like atmosphere that emphasizes emotional growth and the connections between its characters.
The series is noted for its soft, painterly aesthetic which draws heavily from the art style of the original PlayStation titles. Bee Train aimed to translate the game's sense of wonder into a weekly television format, focusing on character-driven storytelling rather than high-octane action. Upon release, the show was well-regarded for its atmospheric world-building and remains a nostalgic touchstone for fans of late-nineties adventure anime.
