Where it came from
Pororo Goes to Korea is an installment within the broader Pororo the Little Penguin franchise, which originated in South Korea in 2003 through a collaboration between Iconix Entertainment, Ocon, SK Broadband, and EBS. The character was developed to bridge the gap between educational programming and character-driven entertainment, featuring a curious penguin and his anthropomorphic animal friends living in the snowy village of Porong Porong Forest.
This specific iteration reflects the franchise's strategy of utilizing its mascots to promote national tourism and cultural identity. The design follows the established minimalist aesthetic created by the original creative team, characterized by vibrant primary colors and simplified, rounded shapes intended to appeal to the developmental stages of early childhood viewers. Upon its release, the project was recognized for its ability to integrate subtle instructional narrative elements into a format that resonated globally, cementing Pororo's status as a cultural icon in South Korea.
