Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream

Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream was produced by Studio Nomad in 2011 as the first installment in the Pretty Rhythm multimedia franchise. Conceived as a tie-in to the arcade game developed by Takara Tomy and Syn Sophia, the series was designed to appeal to young girls by blending digital idol culture with figure skating aesthetics. The narrative follows Aira Harune, a girl who discovers her talent for Prism Shows, a fictionalized performance art combining music, fashion, and skating.

The production utilized a mix of traditional 2D character animation and 3D computer-generated imagery for the skating sequences, a hallmark of the series' visual identity. Character designs were handled by Hisashi Kagawa, who aimed for a vibrant, expressive aesthetic that complemented the series' focus on competitive spirit and personal growth. Upon its release, the show was well-regarded for its upbeat tone and effective integration of merchandising with storytelling, establishing a multi-year franchise that resonated significantly within the shōjo demographic.
