Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live

Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live debuted in 2013 as the third installment in the Pretty Rhythm franchise, a collaboration between Takara Tomy and Syn Sophia aimed at promoting their arcade game rhythm series. Produced by Tatsunoko Production and Dongwoo A&E under the direction of Masakazu Hishida, the series shifted the franchise's tone toward a more music-focused narrative, centering on the character Naru Ayase and her goal of opening a Prism Stone shop. The series was designed to emphasize the growth of its main cast through the art of Prism Shows, which combined ice skating, dance, and fashion.

The character design was spearheaded by Cha Sang-hoon, who translated the energetic, idol-focused aesthetic into a distinct visual style that resonated with the demographic of young girls. While the franchise originated as an interactive experience for arcade cabinets, this entry is noted for its stronger focus on character development and emotional stakes compared to its predecessors. It was generally well-received by fans of the magical girl and idol genres for its balance of performance sequences and heartfelt interpersonal relationships, eventually leading to the creation of the King of Prism spin-off series.
