A-ko and B-ko are bounty hunters in an untamed world. When a young heiress, C-ko, falls out of the sky and into their hair, they find themselves battling space pirates and galactic police. Turns out the high-pitched, hungry C-ko holds a secret —the spirit of an ancient evil— and is the center of a plot to destroy the universe!

Where it came from
Project A-ko: Uncivil Wars was produced by Studio Fantasia and released as a two-part original video animation series beginning in 1990. It serves as a spiritual successor and reimagining of the original 1986 Project A-ko film, moving away from the frantic slapstick comedy of the predecessor to embrace a more mature, refined aesthetic. The production was intended to showcase a higher level of animation quality, reflecting the technical ambitions of the late-eighties and early-nineties OVA boom in Japan.
The project features character designs by Katsumi Hasegawa, who aimed to modernize the iconic look established by Yuji Moriyama. By shifting the tone toward a more grounded science fiction narrative while retaining the core character dynamics of A-ko, B-ko, and C-ko, the studio sought to appeal to a maturing demographic of anime fans. While it holds a distinct place in the series' history for its visual fidelity, it is often viewed as a departure from the chaotic, genre-bending spirit that defined the original feature film.
