While A-Ko ponders losing some weight and B-Ko devises another plan to defeat her redheaded rival to win C-Ko, Napolipolita and Spy-D experience severe homesickness - begging for a way to return to their home planet. Meanwhile, Hikari Daitokuji - B-Ko's father and the CEO of the Daitokuji Financial Group - arms the local military with new mecha to attack Napolipolita's ship and obtain its advanced technology.

Where it came from
Project A-Ko 2: The Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group was released in 1987 as the first direct sequel to the highly successful 1986 original film. Produced by Pony Canyon and animated by Studio A.P.P.P., the project emerged during the peak of the 1980s Japanese direct-to-video animation boom, a period defined by increased creative freedom and high-budget production values for home video releases. The narrative continues the chaotic, genre-bending blend of high school comedy and space opera established in the first installment, focusing on the comedic rivalry between A-Ko and B-Ko.
The character designs were handled by Hideki Tamura, who maintained the aesthetic established by Yuji Moriyama’s original work. The production aimed to lean heavily into the over-the-top, action-packed slapstick that made the original a cult hit among fans of anime parody. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences as a vibrant, technically impressive example of the ova format, cementing the franchise as a staple of 1980s otaku culture and helping to solidify the experimental visual storytelling style that characterized the era.
