Promare: Galo

Promare was released in 2019 as the first feature-length film from Studio TRIGGER, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima. The project served as a thematic successor to the studio's high-energy television works like Gurun Lagann and Kill la Kill, aiming to distill the studio's signature kinetic animation style into a self-contained cinematic experience. Galo Thymos, the film's protagonist, was designed by character designer Shigeto Koyama, who drew inspiration from classic mecha anime tropes while integrating a bold, flat-shaded aesthetic that became the film's visual hallmark.

The design of Galo captures the essence of the firefighter aesthetic fused with futuristic, streetwear-inspired elements. Koyama sought to emphasize the character's impulsive, hot-blooded nature through sharp lines and a high-contrast color palette, primarily focused on his iconic red jacket. Upon its release, the film and its character designs were lauded by critics and audiences alike for their technical brilliance and stylistic cohesion, cementing Galo as a central figure in the contemporary canon of Studio TRIGGER protagonists.
